Start your day with a nutritious and filling breakfast to lose weight
(10/10/2008)
According to a study carried out by researchers in Venezuela, those who ate a high carbohydrate, high protein breakfast every day were more likely to lose weight long term.
But hold steady before you hit the fridge and feast on a fry-up - there is a healthy alternative that will deliver the right amount of nutritional goodies you need minus the saturated fat.
Fresh from a conference held by the British Dietetic Association on the issue of breakfasts, independent nutritionist, Dr Carrie Ruxton says: "Starting your day with a nutritious and filling breakfast is key to sustaining energy levels and staving off hunger throughout the day but only if you're nibbling on the right types of food. Smoothies, cereals, low-fat dairy and seasonal fruit and veg are all great options that will keep you fuller for longer and provide you with the energy you need to keep you going until lunch."
So, swap the bacon and sausage sarnies for a delicious, filling alternative. Omelettes made with spring onions, mushrooms and spinach are a good source of carbohydrates and protein while making the most of summer's seasonal crop.
Fruits like cherries, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries and blended with low-fat yoghurt and yummy honey will make delicious, seasonal smoothies, a fantastic way to treat a sweet tooth and fill you up, the healthy way.
