Start and Run a Successful Beauty Salon by Sally Medcalf and Bijan Yousef-Zadeh is the essential guide to cashing in on the nation’s determination to put their best foot forward.

Lipstick sales go up in a recession but with a UK beauty industry now worth over £3.7 billion it is not just applying a bit of lippy that is cheering us up. With such a wealth of beauty treatments now available to us, a regular trip to our local salon has become so intrinsic to our way of life that it is often considered a necessity when budgeting in hard times.

The first of its kind, this book combines the business acumen of entrepreneur Bijan with Sally’s 25 years in the beauty industry to create the ultimate step by step guide to running your own salon.

This guide covers everything you need to know from the moment you decide to set yourself up in business; including how to choose a location, qualifications for you and your staff, selecting equipment and furniture, business management and finally, the formula for success.

Commenting on his reasons for writing the book, Bijan says, “When a woman is happy she spends money on herself. When a woman is unhappy she spends money on herself. Therefore, if you are trained as a beauty therapist you have invaluable skills to offer. Couple that with the knowledge to run your own business and you are on the road to success.”

About the authors: Beauty therapist Sally Medcalf has spent over 25 years in the beauty industry. For 20 of those years she has been self-employed, running her own salons for the past 12 years. Her diplomas and memberships include BABTAC, CIDESCO, the professional Guild of Beauty Therapists, and Karin Herzog Gold Salon. In 2004 Sally Medcalf was nominated Beauty Therapist and Facialist of the year.

After studying management and marketing mid career, Bijan Yousef-Zadeh went self employed. He started, ran and subsequently sold several successful businesses in food, fashion, retailing and property, and – in the past 5 years – in the beauty industry. Bijan has given numerous lectures, talks and seminars on the theory and practice of sales and marketing, and on how to run your own successful business. His memberships include the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

Start and Run a Successful Beauty Salon is published by How To Books Ltd and is available at £14.99 in major bookshops and online retailers across the country.
