1 in 10 women feel embarrassed about their boyfriend's physical appearance

According to research conducted by The Good Surgeon Guide, 83% of women find a celebrity more attractive than their boyfriend. The study also found that 39% try to style their partner like a celebrity and 48% of women care more about their boyfriend’s appearance than their own.

The survey asked 1,312 women in relationships if they would buy their partner a cosmetic treatment, and if they find celebrities more attractive than their boyfriend in a bid to find out more about women’s opinions on the male appearance.

1 in 10, 11%, admitted to feeling embarrassed about their boyfriend’s physical appearance, and 16% claimed to feel embarrassed about their dress sense. When asked ‘would you end a relationship if your partner had bad dress sense and style?’ 1 in 5, 22%, said that they would, while 43% would attempt to improve their appearance.

Over three quarters of the women asked, 83%, admitted to finding celebrities more attractive than their boyfriend, and 39% of women said they try to style their other half to look like a specific celebrity.

Of the women polled, 18% said they would buy their boyfriend a cosmetic treatment to improve their appearance. 31% would encourage their boyfriend to undergo a non-invasive treatment when they are older, and 34% wouldn’t mind if their partner had cosmetic surgery.

On average the women polled spend 3 hours getting ready for a night out, however almost half, 48%, said they care more about their partner’s appearance on a night out then their own.

When asked ‘Is it more acceptable for women to undergo cosmetic surgery than men?’ 56% said no. 28% said it was more acceptable for women than men, the remaining 16% agreed the gender is irrelevant.

Of course people ask the opinions of friends, family and spouses, but ultimately it will only be the individual going under the knife. Cosmetic surgery is becoming more acceptable within society every week; it shouldn’t make a difference what sex you are.”

“Whether you are male or female, single or married, cosmetic surgery is personal and a very big step. If you are considering it, have a procedure that you are sure about, and with a practitioner that you have researched, met and feel comfortable with.”
